Biologics—A Treatment Option for Active Psoriatic Arthritis (PsA)

SIMPONI® is a type of medicine called a biologic made from proteins found in the body.

When treating PsA, SIMPONI® is sometimes taken with another medicine called methotrexate, as directed. Some biologics, such as SIMPONI®, can also be used without methotrexate to treat the symptoms of active PsA.

Biologics may help relieve the joint pain, stiffness, and swelling and skin symptoms caused by PsA. They are prescribed for people whose symptoms have not fully responded to other types of treatments. These medicines may include:

  • NSAIDs, or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
  • DMARDs, or disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs
