SIMPONI® is a prescription medicine called a Tumor Necrosis Factor (TNF) blocker. SIMPONI® is used in adults with moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis (UC) when certain other UC medicines have not worked well enough or cannot be tolerated, or if it is necessary to continue taking steroid medicines:
-
to begin helping some of your symptoms
-
in people who respond to SIMPONI®, to get their UC under control (induce remission) and keep UC under control (sustain remission)
-
to begin to improve the way the lining of your large intestine looks to your doctor during colonoscopy
Do not try to inject SIMPONI® yourself until you have been shown the right way to give the injections by your doctor or nurse. Once you and your doctor are comfortable with the self-injection process, you will inject SIMPONI® under the skin, just once every 4 weeks after 3 starter injections (2 injections on Day 1, followed by 1 injection 2 weeks later).
Just 1 dose every 4 weeks works to relieve the signs and symptoms of UC. Results may not be the same for everyone. You may continue to use other medications that help treat your condition while taking SIMPONI®, such as prescription steroids, as recommended by your doctor.
